Effective date: August 11, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Scanqy ("the App", "we", "us") handles information when you use the App. We are committed to transparency about what data is collected, by whom, and why.
Summary: Your scanned documents, ID cards, extracted text, and any Face ID or Touch ID authentication data never leave your device. Scanqy collects usage counts and crash reports through Google Firebase, tied to installation-level identifiers rather than your identity, which you can turn off in Settings. Free users see ads served by Google AdMob, which may use your device's advertising identifier if you allow tracking when iOS asks. Scanqy Pro is ad-free.
The following stay entirely on your device and are never transmitted to us:
Scanqy has no user accounts, no login system, and no cloud sync. All OCR processing runs on-device using Apple's Vision framework.
The free version of Scanqy shows ads served by Google AdMob. Scanqy Pro subscribers do not see any ads. AdMob is provided by Google LLC and acts as an independent data controller for the information it collects to serve ads. Google's privacy practices for ads are described at policies.google.com/technologies/ads.
App Tracking Transparency. When you first launch the free version, iOS will ask whether Scanqy may track you across apps and websites. This is required by Apple's App Tracking Transparency (ATT) framework. If you choose Allow, AdMob may use your device's advertising identifier (IDFA) to show ads that are more relevant to you. If you choose Ask App Not to Track, AdMob will still serve ads but they will be non-personalized and will not use your IDFA. You can change this choice at any time in iOS Settings, Privacy and Security, Tracking.
Data collected for advertising. When ads are shown, AdMob may collect your device's advertising identifier (IDFA, only if you allow tracking), coarse device information, and interaction data (impressions, clicks) to deliver and measure ads. Scanqy itself does not see this data; it is collected and processed by Google. Scanqy is configured so AdMob serves ad content rated at most Teen (T), matching the App's 16+ App Store age rating.
Other services. The App communicates with Apple services to load App Store purchase options, process purchases, restore purchases, check subscription entitlements, and perform an anonymous lookup against Apple's iTunes Search API (itunes.apple.com) to check whether a newer version of Scanqy is available on the App Store.
Scanqy uses Google Firebase Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics to understand how the App is used and to diagnose crashes. Google acts as a data processor for this information.
What is collected. Counts of scans and exports, the type of scan or export performed, the number of pages involved, app opens, session starts, app version and update events, App Store purchase events for subscriptions and the lifetime purchase, your device model, operating system version, and language, the vendor identifier (IDFV) that iOS assigns to Scanqy, a Firebase Analytics app-instance identifier and a Crashlytics installation identifier that Firebase generates to distinguish one install of the App from another, and, if the App stops working, a crash report describing what the App was doing at the time.
What is never collected. Your scanned documents, ID cards, page images, extracted text, document titles, and file names are never sent to Firebase or to us. Crash reports carry a short code naming the part of the App that failed, never file paths or document content.
Advertising identifier. Firebase Analytics in Scanqy is built without advertising-identifier support, so it cannot access your IDFA. Analytics data is also configured not to be used for personalized advertising. The IDFA is used only by AdMob, and only if you allow tracking, as described above.
Your choice. If you are in the EEA, the UK, or Switzerland, analytics and crash reporting are switched off until you turn them on. Scanqy asks once, when you first open the App. Everywhere else they are on by default. You can change this at any time in the App under Settings, Privacy, Help Improve Scanqy. Crash reporting changes take effect the next time you open the App.
Retention and transfers. Firebase Analytics data is retained by Google for up to 14 months. Crash reports are retained for up to 90 days. This data is processed on Google servers, which may be located outside your country, including in the United States.
Turning it off is not deletion. Switching the setting off stops new analytics collection immediately. Crash reports already cached on your device from before you turned it off are cleared the next time you open the App rather than instantly, but they are not sent to Google after that clearing runs. It does not delete information already sent. To request deletion of information already sent, contact us at the address in the Contact section.
The App requests camera access to scan documents and ID cards. Images captured in the App are stored only in the App's sandboxed local storage. They are never uploaded to our servers or shared with any third party.
All scanned documents, ID cards, extracted text, and app preferences are stored locally on your device in the App's sandboxed storage. ID card images are stored with full iOS data protection (.complete) so they are encrypted while your device is locked.
Scanqy Pro offers the ability to lock documents and ID cards using Face ID or Touch ID. This feature is optional and is used only to let you unlock protected items on your own device.
Scanqy does not collect face data. Scanqy does not create, access, store, transmit, or receive face geometry, facial landmarks, facial images for recognition, Face ID templates, Touch ID fingerprints, or any other biometric identifiers. Biometric matching is performed entirely by iOS through Apple's LocalAuthentication framework. Scanqy receives only a temporary success or failure result from iOS so the App can unlock or keep locked the protected item.
Because Scanqy does not collect face data, Scanqy does not use face data for advertising, analytics, profiling, identity verification, model training, or any purpose other than the optional on-device unlock flow handled by iOS. Scanqy does not share face data with any third party. Scanqy does not store face data on our servers, in cloud storage, or in the App's local files. Any Face ID or Touch ID data is stored and managed by iOS and Apple device security systems, not by Scanqy.
Scanqy Pro subscriptions are processed entirely by Apple through the App Store using StoreKit. Apple handles all payment information; Scanqy never sees your payment method, billing address, or Apple ID. Subscription status is checked locally via Apple's Transaction API. Manage or cancel your subscription through your Apple ID settings.
Local data, including your scanned documents and ID cards, is retained until you delete it or uninstall the App. Scanqy does not retain face data because Scanqy does not collect face data. Retention for analytics and crash data collected through Google Firebase is described in section 2a, Analytics and Crash Reporting.
Scanqy is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has used the App, contact us and we will work with you to address the issue.
If you are located in the EU, UK, or California, you have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict processing of personal data. Scanqy stores your documents, ID cards, and other content only on your device, so you can exercise these rights over that content directly by managing or deleting it within the App. For analytics and crash data processed by Google as described in section 2a, Analytics and Crash Reporting, you can turn off collection in Settings and request deletion of information already collected by contacting us as described in the Contact Us section.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected in an updated effective date at the top of this page. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
